Perlon Stockinette Uses in Prosthetics and Orthotics
Learn where Perlon stockinette is used in prosthetic and orthotic lamination, how to compare grades, and what to include in a supplier enquiry.
Perlon stockinette is used in prosthetic and orthotic lamination, where a specified tubular fabric helps form the laminate and its surface. The right purchasing question is how the proposed grade fits your fabrication specification—not whether every product sold as Perlon will behave identically.
Lamination in prosthetic and orthotic workshops
Embreis describes Perlon stockinette as a polyamide material used in prosthetic and orthotic lamination. Ottobock's 623T3 Perlon stockinette is another manufacturer example: its product description identifies laminate fabrication, shaping and a smooth surface after lamination.
These are useful reference applications for workshops sourcing tubular fabric. They are not interchangeable specifications for all Perlon products. Confirm the actual yarn, knit, finish and dimensions of the grade being quoted.
Form coverage and surface requirements
Two practical questions help make an enquiry specific. First, what shape and dimensions must the tube cover? Second, what role does the fabric have within the designed laminate? Provide a drawing, sample or process specification that answers both.
For a sample trial, have the fabricator record how the tube sits on the intended form and the resulting surface in the approved process. If there are folds or uneven areas, document where they occur rather than asking vaguely for “better quality”. That gives the supplier a defined requirement to review for the next sample.
Perlon is not a complete reinforcement specification
The word Perlon alone does not define the structural performance of a finished prosthetic or orthotic component. Fibre selection, layer arrangement and resin system belong to the device's fabrication design. Do not replace a specified reinforcement with stockinette merely because the fabrics look similar.
Likewise, lamination material is not automatically a finished patient-contact liner. If the intended order is for a closed-end stump sock or another ready-made item, identify that separately. Our prosthetics and orthotics application page distinguishes the supply enquiry from approval of the finished device.
Comparing Perlon and nylon quotations
Suppliers' commercial names can overlap: Ottobock's 623T3 page uses both Perlon and nylon wording. Treat the product code and material specification as the reliable comparison, rather than assuming the names always describe two fundamentally different fibres.
Ask each supplier for the same information: composition, construction, finish, measured width, length or net fabric weight, packing and the sample reference. Compare the same units. A price per kilogram cannot be compared directly with a price per roll unless the roll contents are also defined. See the cotton, nylon and Perlon comparison guide for the wider material discussion.
Requesting Perlon stockinette from Tahir Collection
Our confirmed Perlon stockinette manufacturing range is 2–40 cm. Specify the measurement basis, desired length or weight, quantity, destination and your fabrication requirements. For repeat orders, include the approved sample reference and the agreed acceptance criteria.
Use the sample request form to begin a grade review. A clear description such as “Perlon tubular fabric for our documented orthotic lamination process; dimensions and required finish attached” is more useful than a request for a generic medical roll.
