Fiberglass-Compatible Casting Stockinette

Smooth-finish protective underliner for fiberglass and plaster casts. Pediatric to adult. 2 cm to 20 cm.

Short answer

Fiberglass-compatible casting stockinette is a smooth-finish, seamless tubular underliner applied directly to the skin as the first layer before fiberglass or plaster casting. The smooth knit surface prevents skin irritation from cast roughness and reduces abrasion — critical for patient comfort, especially in pediatric orthopedic applications.

Fiberglass Casting Stockinette FAQ

Stockinette is applied as the very first layer directly on the patient's skin before fiberglass or plaster casting material is applied. It serves as a protective barrier preventing skin irritation from cast roughness, reduces friction, and allows comfortable removal. A smooth-finish stockinette is essential for fiberglass casts specifically.
Fiberglass casting tape has a rougher texture than plaster. A smooth-finish stockinette creates a comfortable interface between the skin and the cast, preventing pressure sores, abrasion, and skin breakdown — especially critical in pediatric patients.
Standard cotton stockinette is suitable for plaster casts. For fiberglass casts, our fiberglass-compatible stockinette with its specifically designed smooth finish provides better protection. Cotton stockinette is also widely used under both cast types — contact us to discuss optimal choice for your application.
For pediatric applications: fingers/digits (2–3 cm), pediatric wrist/forearm (4–6 cm), pediatric arm (6–8 cm). Adult sizes go from 8 cm up to 20 cm for larger limbs. See our complete size chart.
