Cotton Stockinette Uses: Cast Liners, Garments and Bags
See how cotton stockinette is used for cast and splint liners, garment components and finished bags, and what changes in each buying specification.
Cotton stockinette is used as a tubular liner for casts, splints and orthoses, and in separately specified fabric and bag products. The material name is only the starting point. A medical liner, a cut garment component and a finished cotton bag need different dimensions, construction details and acceptance checks.
Under casts and braces
A common use is a fabric lining within an orthopaedic casting or bracing system. Fabrication Enterprises lists cotton stockinette for fracture casts and braces. A stockinette liner and the casting material perform different functions; buying the liner does not mean buying a complete cast system.
For a medical-supply distributor, identify the intended system before comparing rolls. Ask for the required composition, width measurement, finish, roll length and packaging specification. A photograph of a white tube cannot establish whether two products are interchangeable. Our orthopaedic casting supply page provides the relevant enquiry route.
Removable splint and orthosis liners
North Coast Medical describes its cotton stockinette as a removable liner for splints and orthoses. This is a useful example of a different buying requirement: the buyer may need cut lengths or a finished liner rather than an unrestricted roll.
Specify the finished form. An open tube, a shaped liner and a closed-end sock are not the same item. If repeated washing is part of the intended use, agree the laundering method and dimensional acceptance criteria for the proposed grade. Do not transfer another manufacturer's washing claims to a new supplier's product.
Cotton tubular fabric for garment components
Garment manufacturers can enquire about cotton tubular fabric for components cut to a pattern. The key question is how the tube will be used: kept tubular, cut into sections, or opened into a flat piece. The pattern and sample determine whether the selected width and knit are suitable.
Tahir Collection handles garment and apparel stockinette enquiries. Include the required construction as well as the fibre. “Cotton” does not tell the factory whether you want a single-knit or double-knit fabric, nor how much stretch your component needs.
Finished cotton stockinette bags
We also make cotton game bags with sewn ends or drawstrings. This is a finished-product enquiry, so include the bag's finished dimensions, closure, seam requirements and packing. See our cotton game-bag supply page for that format.
Do not order a bag merely by giving the width of an undercast roll. A bag buyer must also define the intended contents and handling conditions, and any destination-specific documentation required. Medical use of one cotton grade does not establish food-contact suitability of another.
Choose the specification by use
- Medical liner: name the casting, splinting or orthotic system and supply its product requirements.
- Garment component: provide the pattern, knit construction, finish and sample acceptance criteria.
- Finished bag: state finished size, closure, seams, intended use and packing.
Tahir Collection's confirmed cotton stockinette range is 2–40 cm. Agree whether the requested size means relaxed flat width or another measurement; width is not the same as diameter. Quantities can be discussed in rolls, kilograms or bags according to the product. Send the end use with your quotation request so the proposed specification matches the job.
